Home Birth of Our Eighth Child

It’s with great pleasure that I announce the birth of Rachel’s and my eighth child and fourth daughter, MacKenna Elyse. Much to the distress of some friends and family (“Isn’t that dangerous? What if something goes wrong?”), she was born at home on November 4 in a garden size tub, with the assistance of a midwife. Mother and daughter are doing extremely well.

Now, to beat you to the punch line…

No, eight isn’t enough!

We do still plan on having more children. As I once heard it put, “We’re not trying to overpopulate the earth, just outnumber the idiots.” To be more accurate, eight is enough for right now. We’re more than happy to get to know this new little stranger in our family. Even the former baby, Ronan (now age 2), is enamored with his new baby sister. (He just want’s Dad to hold him a lot more now.) But we’re certainly not planning to take any steps to prevent more beautiful babies in the future.
